Cost to respray

I've had my 1971 bay for about 20 yrs on and off and its due for its second respray, this time I am changing the colour, the van is in pretty good nick and there is not much welding to be done. I was wondering if anyone knows how much they would pay for a respay. I have been quoted to have the inside cab, engine bay  done aswell. I know this is a bit of an ask but if anyone has any idea I would appreciate it.

My bay was welded up ready for painting but still needed a good rub back from the patches of primer and a few dinks that needed filling.  I didnt want a showroom finish but something that looked respectable.  I was quoted £1000 by an accident repair guy, £3000 by a VW restorer, and £2500 by a classic restorer.  I had most confidence in the accident repair guy, maybe he just had the gift of the gab.  Anyway he rubbed it back, called me in, pointed out work I may conseider getting done, ie, a few more dinks, then he set to work doing more prep.  It was painted White upper and red lower.  It took him 3 weeks and the final cost was £1675.  It is a very good job and much better than I was expecting.  The classic restorer said his quote would change inevitably, so he wasnt going to get the job and the V restorer said they would drive it straight into the bay and spray, so for £3k the finish would have been like a 30 year old nissan (datsun!!)  Hope this helps.  best bet will be to go and find some places and see them in action.  I think that is what swung it for me as the guy who did it had a few vehicles in the process of being sprayed at the time and he invited me down to see them before taking on my bay.

Thanks for that sort of info, I think you need to check around as you did and take a chance unless you know some one who actually know someone who has had one done near you.

I'll keep looking
