Hi can anyone point me in the right direction for purchasing a successful arm puller.I have purchased one from ebay that would supposedly do the job,but to no avail.Have done all the usual things like soaking in wd40,tightened puller and tried to shock with hammer, but have not tried heat as I may damage further the steering box seals.

I have removed several of the torsion arms without the need for a special puller but it has taken some perseverence and judicial drifting with a block of wood and a substantial club hammer.

Ensure that the set screws have been fully remooved before you start though.  You will have to remove the hub assembly when you reassemble the axle and it will help to have that out of the way during dismantling (that is if you havent already done that)

I found the hardest part was putting the whole lot back together as keeping the leaves of the spring together was tricky. One or two leaves would invariably fail to locate on the second side to be assembled and the result would push them out of the far side past the core plug!  I have since learned that many people run a bead of weld along the end to hold the leaves in place.

Hopefully some of this will be helpful.

Pitman Arm aka Drop Arm....I use a Draper hydraulic puller. Usualy goes with a bang as it comes off the taper but it does the job.

Hi sorry it has taken a long time to reply, been having darned computer troubles o.k. when they are working correctly.I think I may have misled people with my description of what is needed The part I wish to remove is the drop arm attached to the steering box, thought this was called the pitman arm.Understand this can be very tight,as in my original message I have tried a puller bought especially for the job, soaked copiously in wd40 but to no avail, but have not tried heat because of steering box seals.Any help greatly appreciated as to where I can purchase the proper puller. Thanks Mike

The animal you need is a hydraulic puller . The model I use is a Draper 50094 hydraulic puller kit. Bunging that into Google will produce quite a variety of suppliers and prices. Sykes Pickavant also do one but its the Rolls Royce version for hard trade usage and priced accordingly.
