I have some sympathy for you, I had an engine fire, but luckily it was deemed repairable, be prepared for the Insurance to scrap it, try and get an independent VW garage to submit a letter saying it is repairable.

I ve already had a vw restro firm look at it there going to put a quote in to the insurance they say its repairable , luckily it caught fire 100yds from a fire station so was not burning for long most of the damage is wiring and paint work

It appears similar to mine, Insurance 1st wanted to scrap it, I put my case against it, they then changed their mind, I spent a few hours fitting new carb dizzy and re wiring etc and it was running again and off to the garage for "proper repairs"
